The overwhelming landslide victory of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte ensue a grand party of half a million supporters in Davao City last Saturday evening. Dubbed as “One Nation, One Love,” the thanksgiving celebration was filled with hope as former mayor reassured his people through his 30-minute speech on the promises that he is about to meet.
The party has ended two hours before the schedule due to heavy rains. However, it did not stop the people from enjoying and being entertained by some local artists who joined the event. Some spotted celebrities were Vice Ganda, Sarah Lahbati, Annabelle Rama, Jimmy Bondoc, Paolo Santos and many more.
Three weeks before the official start of his Administration, are we ready for a Duterte- leadership? Let’s recap the top issues Duterte addressed in his party:
IMPROVED HEALTHCARE SERVICE
He committed to realign all of the earnings of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR ) for medicine and hospitalization of the Filipino citizens. Aside from the health sector, he also said that he will allocate more budget for the education sector from billions of the agency’s fund.
ATTACKED ILLEGAL MINING
Duterte is looking forward to future projects of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) because appointed Maribojoc Mayor Jun Evasco will be his partner in slamming mining companies in Mindanao. However, Mindanao is not only the one enduring the effects of mining, according to Duterte. The Metro Manila is also experiencing defeat from big companies who destroy the land of the country.
He continuously insisted the misery corruption caused our country. He said billions of pesos, snatched from people, were supposedly offered to the citizen’s welfare. He warned against corrupt police officers as well and asked them to resign. “As I have said in the meeting de avance, my parting words were that if you destroy my country, I will kill you,” he said.
BETTER ACCESS TO EDUCATION
He raised two major problems with the education system: the youth who stopped schooling and the teachers were marginalized. He promised to address this problem by putting more national high schools in Barangays. “No need to walk for 20 to 30 kilometers to go to school. Ako na mismo ang magdala ng eskuwelahan,” he said.
DRUG AND DRUG LORDS
“Galit ako sa droga. If you are into it, wala ka man lulong, stop it.” Of course, Duterte won’t stop to reiterate that he will eradicate drugs in our country. He appealed to the communities asking them to participate by cooperating with the police in detaining addicts. Moreover, he also assured bounty for arrest of drug lords.
GRATITUDE TO DAVAOEÑOS
After everything, Duterte expressed sincere gratitude to his fellowmen who know him beyond mere words and characters he displays. He gave hope to them by reassuring them that their society will be a lot better.
