THE victory of businessman Donald Trump in United States presidential elections is a big hope that the tarnished relationship of the Philippines and America will lead back to the old good ties between the two countries.
This possibility could happen after President Rodrigo Duterte said he is willing to end his tirade against US with America under the stewardship of President-elect Trump.
Duterte has severely attacked America’s continues wrong relationship with the Philippines that started in the early 1900s.
The President even recalled back the massacres committed by US soldiers against Balangigan-on and Moro people in early 1900s.
He strongly asserted that the US government never offered its apology after they committed the crimes.
Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar said Duterte “looks forward to working with the incoming administration for enhanced Philippines-US relations anchored on mutual respect, mutual benefit, and shared commitment to democratic ideals and the rule of law.”
Andanar said Duterte wished to extend his congratulations to Trump after it was officially announced that the Republican presidential timber won the polls.
Trump became the 45th president after he defeated Hilary Clinton, Democratic presidential candidate, in the electoral body.
Even Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. who joined with Duterte’s attack on the US said Trump’s victory “signals an opportunity for change that can result in a stronger RP-US relationship.”
Yasay had told that the treatment of the US government on the Filipinos “little brown brothers.”
Few hours after his victory, Trump told his supporters that unity among the Americans (pro-Trump and pro-Clinton) must prevail in the next four years.
He will serve until 2020.
Trump also stressed that his promise of making America great again will be realized.
He said the potential of the Americans to release the giant in them will be tapped for further development of US.
The infrastructures of the US will be given proper attention so as to help improve America’s economy.
Trump is not a traditional politician, nor he worked in any government post.
His resolve to become the next president of America to stop the rule of the Democratic party was just happened last year.
Trump has been a businessman for a long period of time—and unquestionably became a successful and popular business mogul.
