The roof is on fire and we’re all okay with it!
This week, the gods of fiction world have decided to either excite us or torture us out of our wits when the newest photos of the London-based Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play cast were released.
Last Tuesday, May 31, the Potter Family photo were released online. This featured Jamie Parker as the much older, Ministry-employed Harry Potter, while Poppy Miller will play as Ginny Weasley-Potter and Sam Clemmett as Albus Severus, Harry’s 11-year- old son who is hinted to be the central figure of the play.
It’s also the first time that fans have seen Parker with the infamous scar and glasses.
The following day graced us with photos of the obviously cheerful and happy Granger-Weasley family.
Paul Thorney and Noma Dumezweni will play as Harry’s long time friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Cherrelle Skeete will play the role of their daughter Rose.
Fans cannot help but speculate whether the youngest Weasley would be sorted into Hufflepuff, because if the suspicious yellow threading of her cardigan. Fellow second generation characters, Albus and Scorpius were mysteriously dressed without any indication of house color.
Back in December 2015, the announcement of the Swaziland-born Dumezweni as Hermione Granger sparked an online discussion as to whether Hermione’s lineage was specified in the books.
Fans were initially surprised but were quick to embrace the new image of their favorite character with the support of the author-goddess J.K. Rowling and Emma Watson (another goddess) who played as Hermione in the films.
And while the fans are already overjoyed and borderline hysterical, the last photo series were released featuring the regally badass father-son tandem of Draco and Scorpius Malfoy played by Alex Price and Anthony Boyle respectively.
While many people were asking why other members of the Potter and Weasley families were not included in the shoot (such as James Sirius and Lily Luna Potter, and Hugo Weasley), we can only assume that it was due to the fact that the new play will be focused on Albus Potter who will be attending his first year in Hogwarts along with Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy, whom we are all speculating to be the ones completing the next generation Golden Trio.
The play will open in the Palace Theater in London on July 30, two-part West End stage play is written by Jack Thorne and based on a story by the author, J.K. Rowling, Thorne and John Tiffany who will direct the play.
The story will focus both on Harry and his son, Albus, who must struggle with the weight of the family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
While we, fans from the Philippines, can only suffer and hope to catch a glimpse of the play, a scriptbook of the two- part play will be released a day after its premiere on July 31 which is also Harry and Rowling’s birthday! The scriptbook will be the eight official installment following the last book of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Let the excruciating yet exciting countdown begins!
