PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte ordered the immediate arrest of Jack Lam for economic sabotage and bribery charges.

Duterte also directed Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) chairperson Andrea Domingo to shut down all online gaming outlets of Lam.

The order of the President against the Macau-based businessman came on the heels of Lam’s camp denial on bribery attempt on two government officials.

Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II earlier disclosed that Lamp, through retired police Chief Supt. Wally Sombero, wanted to have a “godfather” in the Duterte administration so that his online gaming business is well-protected.

Sombero denied this.

Domingo, likewise, revealed to the media that some people who claimed to be representatives of Lam that he wanted protection for his business.

Lam came to the public attention after more than 1,000 Chinese were arrested by police, while on the act of working on illegal online games in Fontana Clark in Pampanga.

Aguirre said Lam could be arrested without formal criminal charges filed against him because “economic sabotage” is a continuing crime.

Under the law, police can arrest anyone who is committing crime continuously.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa told the media that Lam and Sombero will be arrested any time upon the orders of Duterte.

Sombero was not part of the marching orders of the President, but Dela Rosa said he will be arrested also for his supposed participation in Lamp’ bribery attempt.

Lawyer Raymund Fortun vehemently denied bribery attempts of his client Lam on Aguirre and Domingo.

Lam was the second businessman engaged in online gaming business who is subject of Duterte’s rants on businessman.

The first one was Roberto Ongpin who was forced to sell his online gaming company Philweb to Gregorio Araneta for a very law price.

Araneta is a member of the board of directors of Philweb for two years already.

Araneta was recently elected president of the board after he bought the shares of Ongpin in Philweb.

Araneta is brother-in-law of former Sen. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Marcos is a close friend of Duterte.
